FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 6

The Flying Mummy Attack is quite an interesting set.  I got this set for Christmas of 2011. The set has three minifigures and one hundred twenty-five pieces. Two of the minifigures are exactly the same. Those two minifigures come with spears, who are defending a tower with a diamond on the top. The other minifigure iss flying a plane trying to get the diamond in his plane, the Spirit of Luis, which closely resembles a Royal Air Force biplane. The set did wow me when I first saw it but, I do not think that it will become an iconic set in the future. Here is what Lego.com said about this set:

Seize the soul diamond in an epic air battle!

Jake Raines swoops down from the sky in his armored biplane to seize the soul diamond from atop the obelisk. Suddenly, 2 flying mummies arrive to claim the treasure for their master. Who will win this epic air battle?

  • Includes 3 minifigures: Jake Raines and 2 flying mummies
  • Jake Raines features aviator headgear
  • Flying mummies include detailed wings and gold spears
  • Grab the soul diamond from atop the obelisk with biplane’s grab function!
  • Collect all of the LEGO® Pharaoh’s Quest sets to have all the treasures and awaken the Pharaoh!
  • Obelisk measures 7” (18cm) tall
  • Armored biplane measures 7” (18cm) long and over 6” (15cm) wide

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 9

The Flying Mummy Attack comes with three minifigures and one hundred twenty-five pieces. Here are the minifigures:

  • Jake Raines with aviator jacket and helmet: Found in one other set: 30090 Desert Glider.
  • Flying Mummy (two in this set): Found in two other sets: 7327 Scorpian Pyramid, and 853176 Skeleton Mummy Battle Pack.

There are several rare colors in this set, such as dark red, earth blue, dark orange, and warm gold.

There are also some rare pieces in this set.

  • Black Roof Tile Corn. Invert.2X2/45
  • Dark Brown Mini Upper Part No.1732
  • Medium Stone Gray Mini Lowerpart "No. 195"
  • Medium Stone Gray Mini Upper Part
  • Medium Stone Gray Wall 1X2X2 W. Bowed Slit
  • Earth Blue Eaglewing "Nr.1"
  • Medium Stone Gray Mini Head "No.755"
  • New Dark Red Brick 4X3 W. Bow/Angle
  • New Dark Red Wall Element 1X4X1 Abs
  • New Dark Red Plate 4X4
  • New Dark Red Plate 4X4, 1/4 Circle
  • New Dark Red Rudder 2X6X4

I consider these pieces rare becuase they are not found in many othe Lego sets.

Since the Flying Mummy Attack has rare colors and pieces, that would affect the desiability for this set.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 8

The Flying Mummy Attack has some elements that make this set extremely fun. You can make Jake Raines fly his plane, The Spirit of Luis, to try to capture the soul diamond. But that will get harder as two flying mummies come out of nowhere to defend to diamond mounted on the top of the obelisk. On the plane, there are two guns to attack the flying mummies and a grab function to get the soul diamond of the top of the tower quickly. Because of all of its fun elements, some people may buy this set, not as an investment, but as a toy to play with.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 4

The Flying Mummy Attack has a retail price of $19.99 USD. The set has one hundred twenty-five pieces. This means that the Price Per Piece ratio of this set is sixteen cents ($0.16 USD) per piece. Let's compare this set to other sets from Pharaoh's Quest theme.

Set Number Set Name Retail Price USD Number of Pieces Price Per Piece USD
30090 Desert Glider $3.99 33 Pieces $0.12
30091 Desert Rover $3.99 34 Pieces $0.12
7305 Scarab Attack $4.99 44 Pieces $0.11
7306 Golden Staff Guardian $9.99 70 Pieces $0.14
7307 Flying Mummy Attack $19.99 125 Pieces $0.16
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $29.99 213 Pieces $0.14
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $49.99 527 Pieces $0.09
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $99.99 792 Pieces $0.13

The average PPP ratio for these sets is thirteen cents ($0.13 USD). The Flying Mummy Attack has a PPP ratio that is three cents above the average. For me, I would get this set if it was on sale, or on clearence. This set has the highest PPP ratio of all the Pharaoh's Quest sets. If I were to part this set out, I would only if I needed the money desperately. Let's take a look at the PPP ratios in other currencies.

United Kingdom

Set Number Set Name Retail Price UK Number of Pieces Price Per Piece UK
30090 Desert Glider N/A 33 Pieces N/A
30091 Desert Rover N/A 34 Pieces N/A
7305 Scarab Attack $3.99 44 Pieces $0.14

7307 Flying Mummy Attack $14.99 125 Pieces $0.19
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $25.99 213 Pieces $0.19
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $40.99 527 Pieces $0.12
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $71.99 792 Pieces $0.14

The average PPP ratio for these sets in the UK currency is (0.16 UK). The Flying Mummy Attack has a PPP ratio of nineteen (0.19 UK). That is three above the average. I would consider that a high PPP ratio, and again, I would only buy this set if it were on sale or on clearence. this set has the second highest PPP ratio of all of these Atlantis sets.

Australia

Set Number Set Name Retail Price AU Number of Pieces Price Per Piece AU
30090 Desert Glider N/A 33 Pieces N/A
30091 Desert Rover N/A 34 Pieces N/A
7305 Scarab Attack $7.99 44 Pieces $0.17
7306 Golden Staff Guardian $17.99 70 Pieces $0.24
7307 Flying Mummy Attack $34.99 125 Pieces $0.27
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $49.99 213 Pieces $0.22
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $89.99 527 Pieces $0.16
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $159.99 792 Pieces $0.19

The average PPP ratio for these sets in the australian currency is twenty (0.20 AU) per piece. The Flying Mummy Attack has a PPP ratio of twenty-seven (0.27 AU) per piece. That is seven above the average. And again, it is the highest PPP ratio of all these sets and I would only get this set on slae or on clearence.

Europe

Set Number Set Name Retail Price EU Number of Pieces Price Per Piece EU
30090 Desert Glider N/A 33 Pieces N/A
30091 Desert Rover N/A 34 Pieces N/A
7305 Scarab Attack $4.99 44 Pieces $0.15
7306 Golden Staff Guardian $9.99 70 Pieces $0.19
7307 Flying Mummy Attack $19.99 125 Pieces $0.21
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $29.99 213 Pieces $0.19
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $49.99 527 Pieces $0.13
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $99.99 792 Pieces $0.17

The average PPP ratio for these sets in this currenecy is seventeen (0.17 EU) per piece. The Flying Mummy Attack has a PPP ratio of twenty-one (0.21 EU). That is four above the average. This set has the highest PPP ratio of all these sets, and I would only buy it if it was on clearence or sale.

Overall, between these four currencies, a clear message comes through. The Flying Muumy Attack has the highest or second highest PPP ratio of all the sets. The set is also above the averages for each currency. I believe that the set is priced high for the amount of pieces it has.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 6

The Flying Mummy Attack comes from the Pharaoh's Quest theme. This theme is based around an explorer trying to find secrets of the ancients egyptians. It is like the adventurers theme. Personally, I enjoy the theme. It is a theme where there are enough sets that you could own all the sets in the theme. I think that these sets sold well in the primary market, and I think that they will sell well in the secondary market.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 5

There is nothing exclusive about the Flying Mummy Attack set. It is not in limited production. It is not from any Lego trade shows that I know of. The set is not sold in the primary market anymore, so you can only get this set in the secondary market.

PACKAGING | Score: 5

The Flying Mummy Attack does not have any special markings or unique packaging that would differentiate this set from other Lego sets. it is just a normal set.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 6

The Flying Mummy has a retail price of $19.99 USD. The current value of this set is $22.83 USD. That means the CAGR of this set is 6.87%. Let's compare this set to other sets from the Pharaoh's Quest theme.

Note: The data values are from May 2013.

Set Number Set Name Retail Price USD Current Value USD CAGR
30090 Desert Glider $3.99 $11.06 66.49%
30091 Desert Rover $3.99 $8.73 47.92%
7305 Scarab Attack $4.99 $7.82 25.19%
7306 Golden Staff Guardian $9.99 $13.70 17.11%
7307 Flying Mummy Attack $19.99 $22.83 6.87%
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $29.99 $24.25 -10.08%
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $49.99 $31.18 -21.02%
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $99.99 $99.52 -0.24%

The average CAGR for the Pharaoh's Quest theme is -0.62%. The CAGR of this set is above that. This is good, but as you can see, four other sets have an extremely higher CAGR than this set.  I still say that the potential growth is good for the secondary market. Now let's look at the CAGR in other currencies.

United Kingdom

Set Number Set Name Retail Price UK Current Value UK CAGR
30090 Desert Glider N/A $5.18 N/A
30091 Desert Rover N/A $2.60 N/A
7305 Scarab Attack $3.99 $5.29 15.14%
7306 Golden Staff Guardian $8.99 $8.79 -1.14%
7307 Flying Mummy Attack $14.99 $15.90 2.98%
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $25.99 $13.87 -26.95%
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $40.99 $26.01 -20.34%
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $71.99 $58.01 -10.23%

In the UK currency, the Flying Mummy attack is one of two sets that has a positive CAGR. Of those two sets, it has the lower one, which is 2.98%

Australia

Set Number Set Name Retail Price AU Current Value AU CAGR
30090 Desert Glider N/A $6.32 N/A
30091 Desert Rover N/A $6.32 N/A
7305 Scarab Attack $7.99 N/A N/A
7306 Golden Staff Guardian $17.99 N/A N/A
7307 Flying Mummy Attack $34.99 N/A N/A
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $49.99 N/A N/A
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $89.99 $54.21 -22.39%
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $159.99 $158.94 -0.33%

For the CAGR in the Australian currency, we do not know the CAGR. The only thing we know is the retail price, which is $34.99 AU. But of the two sets that we know the CAGR, they are both negative.

Europe

Set Number Set Name Retail Price EU Current Value EU CAGR
30090 Desert Glider N/A $19.67 N/A
30091 Desert Rover N/A N/A N/A
7305 Scarab Attack $4.99 $5.19 1.98%
7306 Golden Staff Guardian $9.99 $9.21 -3.97%
7307 Flying Mummy Attack $19.99 $15.24 -12.68%
7325 Cursed Cobra Statue $29.99 $15.51 -28.09%
7326 Rise of the Sphinx $49.99 $26.29 -27.49%
7327 Scorpian Pyramid $99.99 $66.64 -18.36%

In the European currency, the Flying Mummy Attack has a negative CAGR. Only one set has a positive CAGR. That is not good for the value of the sets.

Overall, there is a pattern for these sets that I have noticed for some of the currencies. As the retail price increases, the CAGR of the set decreases. For all these currencies, I think that there is potential growth in the secondary market.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 8

The Flying Mummy Attack set does display well. The obelisk with the soul diamond is a very interesting piece of this set. It is a topic of conversation beacuse of the unique sticker on the obelisk and the biplane looks really cool. I think that this set is an impressive set when displayed. This set is definitely a unique set when compared to other sets.
