MEMBER OWNS SET: YES     MEMBER HAS BUILT SET: YES

FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 9

This set looks great!

If you are into displaying LEGO-Sets then this one might be just the one for you!

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 4

Probably the printed bricks with the bird information

No Minifigures.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 9

The build experience is great!

You get three instructions, one for each bird, which is nice because you can build one bird whileyour kids or partner builds another bird.

Building the birds itself doesn't take so much time, which might be a pro or con, depending on what you like ;-)

Since the build is not just beautiful but also rather simplistic even kids won't have any problems.

The birds are made for display but I guess you could play with them if you wanted to. (For example put a seat and a stormtrooper on the back of the colibri ;-) ). Since it's a "display-set" of course there are no play features included.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 7

With 13 cent per brick the set surely is one of the more expensive ones.

Given the fact that there are hardly any unique bricks included (and of course no minifigs) one might argue that the set is a little bit too expensive.

On the other hand you do get a really great set here. Once built and put on display the birds will awe you (and your guests ;-) ).

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 9

I think that LEGO ideas is a rather popular theme, though not as popular as Star Wars, etc.

Since the theme isn't really what you would call a theme but more a collection of the most popular (you need 10.000 votes for yoru project) and profitable (LEGO picks out the most suitable projects that have reached 10.000 supporters) ideas of lego builders from all over the world it's obvious that each set will be somehow popular by itself.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 10

Since there is no theme, but only single projects, the exclusivity is pretty high and it is not very likely that the sets will be redone anytime soon (if at all).

PACKAGING | Score: 10

I just love the boxart and packaging of all of the ideas sets.

Each one gets a really unique touch and has got a solid and pretty box. You can almost (no not almost, but you actually can do it!) put the box itself on display.

(That's what my GF is actually doing with the Eiffel Tower ;-) ).

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 8

It's not licenced and there are not many unique bricks included.

On the other hand this set really is unique and VERY VERY beautiful.

When getting a present for other adults (who are not so much into LEGO but you still want to get them some LEGO because they might enjoy it either way) normally you will look for some architecture stuff. If you know they are into something you also can get them the LEGO DeLorean for example or Ecto-1 (Ghostbusters), Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, etc. Totally depending on their likings. With LEGO Birds I have the feeling that it is like an all-purpose LEGO-present. My grandparents might enjoy it just as well as my kids or my friends.

So all in all I think it will have some growth potential but it really is difficult to predict.

Could be a sleeper, could be a Lone Ranger... *

*sleeper = you don't think it'll do great (and so do others) that's why not many investors buy it. once it's done people want it so bad that the few investors that bought some are really lucky ;-)

*Lone Ranger reference = the movie wasn't that good, no real fanbase, sets don't perform that good... (if you put all your money into these sets... ouch).

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 10

BAM! That's what LEGO birds was made for!

Can't go wrong with it!

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 8

Even though LEGO Birds is pretty expensive and there are not many unique bricks, it's still a very beautiful set.

The build experience is great and it was made to be put on display.

Nobody can predict the growth potential of this set but I would get at least one for myself if I were you (and maybe a second one as present for somebody... this set will always be a great present ;-) So even if after its retirement it won't perform great you'll have an all-purposed present ^.^).
