It is the second set of Super Heroes I built so I have some directions in what to expect.

The price was around 42€ for 476 pieces. This falls under my 10c/brick guide rule so I decided to buy it. The first impression when I opened the box was... wow. The difference between set 76007 - attack on malibu mansion and this one is quite large. I think it is about 110 pieces difference, but when you actually shake out the bags, it feels alot more. Unlike 76007, this set looks much more complete. The difference in price is around 10€ but it would have been well worth it had they upgraded 76007 to 76005 level. So the first impression was good.

76005 Content

This remains a playset of course and it will never wow me like the Haunted House for example.

76005 Minifigures

  • Spider Man: The known look. Too bad they left out the printing on the pants.
  • Dr. Doom: This one I like alot. Has the cape, good helmet, Printed legs. Torso is a bit plain imo but overal a nice minifigure. Unique to this set.
  • J. Jonah Jameson: Simple, but good design. Here it doesn't really bother that the pants are not printed. It has dual face printing. The minifigure can also be found in set 4855 Train Rescue but was redesigned so in a way, it is unique to this set as well.
  • Beetle: I didnt even know this one. I'm not really a super spidermand fan, so that might be why. It is well designed. I like the red. The torso is pretty detailed and the wings have a honey grate structure. Pretty nice. In all, even if I don't know the figure, I like it.
  • Nova: Another unknown to me. This one is not bad. It has double face printing. The torso is rather plain. The helmet and face are nice. The colors don't do it for me. This figure is unique to this set.

Unique parts:

  • The Lego News. 2x2. It is probably not exclusive, but good part to have.
  • The stickering (and there are enough!)
  • The rotors of the jet. Also probably not unique, but first time I come across them
  • The lamp post.

The rest are all common I think. There are some nice pieces in it if you build MOC's.

The building is pretty straight forwards. No difficulties at all. The fact that I'm not a 6yr old probably explains that, but I doubt that even a 6 year old would have difficulties building this.

76005 Jet

The Jet is the eye catcher here. The colors match well but again, the same issue I have here as with the helicopter from 76007... how do you fly this thing without controls! The grappling hook is pretty cool and the rotors are a nice touch. The design in general is a nice one, you could use this jet as plane or submarine. There are only 2 stickers on this one. A good thing!

76005 DBC Front

76007 DBC Back

The DBC building is larger than I had expected. It uses a nice color for bricks. The exterior looks pretty neat. The big display with Jameson is a nice add, but imo without it, the building looks even better and bigger. Also... stickers! A dozen of them and the highlight of them the window stickers. They are in the good position, but look like the windows haven't been washed for years (little microbubbels inside). The windows themselves were pretty low  quality also imo. Many imperfections. If that is because of an environmental friendly plastic, it's ok by me, so not grading less because of it. There is a good amount of doors, windows and other house building bricks.

I wouldn't have minded if they made the office 4 studs wider. Now it has the feeling of being very closed in. The interior aswell is nearly as estethic as 76005. The plant on the ground floor could have been replaced  by a fountain, receptionist, whatever, but not this sad lonely plant! The first floor is ok, but again, stickers. My motoric functions have increased by 3% after applying the stickers on this set. The second floor desk could have been more detailed.

With all the minifigures, traps and rockets and things falling, its a nice set to play with

At an advice price of 59.99, it really is expensive for 476 pieces. It would come to 12,6c/piece and that is too much. However I bought it at 42,00 and that brings it at 8,82 c/brick and that is already much more where I want it. However the initial price is deciding my grading.

I do believe that you can gain some with parting out the set. 5 minifigures that are not that easy to find, bundled with lots of nice building elements that can be used. The public that you will be able to sell are the minifigure collectors, Superheroes fans, moc makers, but also City children (I don't' recall there being a newspaper building for sale in the City series).

Spider Man is really popular. From the early cartoons to the movies. He speaks to alot of people and thus, he will remain popular for quite some years still I believe. I rated popularity 1 less than Iron Man. They could try casting Robert Downey Jr. in Spiderman .... that man is such a great actor.

76005 Box Front

76005 Box Back

The Box is nothing special. It has the general Marvel Super Heroes layout with on the front the nice picture and the minifigs and at the back the playmodus.

It has some growth potential, but not when you pay MSRP. I think 1.5 times MSRP you can sell it a year after EOL, but have doubts it would go much higher.

76005 Set

Not  a display set. It doesn't look bad but too small and not detailed it to justify it gathering dust. It is a playet.

Initial pricing was steep, but if  you buy these for around 40€, I wouldn't hesitate picking up 5 of them. If I can't sell it as a complete set after EOL for a decent profit, I will part it. It will not be a strong performer, but it will perform.
