FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 9

Before buying the set, I thought that the AT-AP looked the awesome. I had to get the set and the star wars day 15% deal on shop@home meant that I just had to get it. In the set there is (of course) an AT-AP, an awesome commander Gree with printing to make him look like he did in the films, Chief Tarful and a super battle droid, a battle droid commander and a battle droid.

Before buying:

- Great vehicle
- Great minifigures

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 7

- Clone commander Gree (new design)
- Chief Tarful (new design)
- Rare door hinge pieces

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 7

I enjoyed building the set. There were a lot of technic elements which were  fun to build but not really useful pieces for system builders. The set has some nice stickers such as the targetting computer sticker although it would have been better if it were a printed piece. The door hinges are fun as is the lifting roof, elevating turret and the rotating gunner on top. The belly gun also rotates and elevates. The legs have poseable pieces, but they are not poseable - the AT-AP just falls over. The third leg is held well and looks ok.

The AT-AP does sacrifice some details to playability. The third leg is the wrong shape and hangs down too low when folded up. The top turret shouldn't be connecting to the main turret which should be sunk into the front of the vehicle. The belly gun lacks in it's looks and the back of the AT-AP looks unfinished - there are 4 studs that just jut out the back. The plates at the back have gaps as well. The rear is the biggest downer of this set although it isn't immediately apparent when buying the set. In fact the only time you get to see the back when viewing the product on the lego website is on the video for about a second. The pictures are all cleverly angled so you don't see the back. This said, it is a relitivly easy fix. The reason they left the back exposed is so the top lifts off nicely.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 5

This set could not be effectively parted out due to its high quantity of technic pieces. Some of the pieces in this set may be worth a lot but technic pieces won't sell very well. The set is not a bargain or overpriced, so it is an average set in this way.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 9

Star wars is a very popular theme and has been running for over a decade now. There is a lot of interest in past sets and I myself have purchased many retired star wars sets. The AT-AP is not a major vehicle in the Star Wars franchise however it is a very popular one. I think that this set could be a good investment although I don't think it will be fantastic. If I had to choose which star wars sets to invest in, it would definately be the AT-TE and the Republic Gunship.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 4

This set is not exclusive or hard to find. There is a limit of 2 per household on shop@home for the UK though. It is plentiful on amazon.

PACKAGING | Score: 6

The box is quite large but thin. It isn't anything special really.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 7

I think that this set will do quite well. On the week of star wars day, shop@home did a 15% discount on all star wars sets. Very quickly sets began to sell out. The super star destroyer, AT-TE and republic gunship all sold out quite quickly. After that week, prices on amazon came down considerably. I'm not sure if they are linked or whether lego decided to wait until after that week to reduce the price to amazon. The AT-AP sold out on the Thursday. It was around the 7th to sell out. From this, I think that I can safely say that it will make a tidy profit although not as big as the AT-TE or the republic gunship.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 7

This set is quite imposing from the front, looks good and has good minifigures. On display, it towers over almost all, if not all, the seperatist vehicles. It looks great when displayed correctly but if the back is exposed then it looks a bit incomplete. Its only real rivals on the clone wars display are the AT-TE and the republic gunship.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 7

Pros:
- Good looking vehicle, generally
- Great minifigures, great printing on chief Tarful and commander Gree
- Good features, lifting roof, doors, guns
- Popular among star wars fans

Cons:
- Feels incomplete at the back
- Vehicle only balances when the legs are posed in one position
- There are not enough minigures to pilot the AT-AP, there needs to be a pilot and two gunners

In conclusion, this set is a good set. It is not the best that star wars has seen, but certainly a very good one. It will appeal to star wars fans and they will probably but 2 or 3 of them as it is a support unit and isn't seen in the films on its own. I would invest in this set if I had plenty of money, but wouldn't choose to invest in it otherwise. My choices for star wars are the AT-TE and the Republic Gunship. After them, it would be the AT-AP.
