MEMBER OWNS SET: YES     MEMBER HAS BUILT SET: YES

FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 8

As a grown-up, there are not many sets that I want to buy for myself, and not for investment. This one is one of them. This dark "asylum" castle looked so refined and detailed that I definitely had to buy and build it. Although I am absolutely not into super-heroes, I fell in love with the general look of the set.

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 8

The 8 minifigures are really weel chosen, although not exactly exclusive. If you buy only one set in the Batman universe, you'll get a pretty interesting line-up with this one. And for once, the number of minifgs seems perfect for a building this size, in terms of gameplay. In comparison, 8 minifgs in the Helm's Deep is ridiculously low.

Some pieces are pretty interesting for MOC purpose. I like for instance the 24 "1x2x5" pillars with groove, in dark grey (http://brickset.com/parts/6030224) which is exclusive to the set.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 9

The build experience is simply amazing. Some of the techniques used are so creative, that I have felt very humble regarding my MOC'ing skills most of the building-time... The gate, the gargoyles, the windows, the stained glass (similar to Hobbit 79003), are just impressive, beautiful, and very convincing.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 7

Well... As the set is marked as "hard-to-find", it is complicated to find huge discounts.

So I'll compare to a set with a similar price (even if you could find it at 60% the retail price): Helm's Deep 9474.

10973 Arkham Asylum 169€ 8 minifigs 1600+ pieces
9474  Battle of Helm's Deep 149€ 8 minifigs 1350+ pieces

The figs are definitely better in the AA set (compared to the "anonymous" uruk'hai minifgs in the lotr set), and the set get more pieces.

So, nothing incredible here. The price seems quite "normal" for a licensed set.

I'll give a 8, because of intersting part-out' potential: minifigs, roof tiles, exclusive pillars.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 8

The theme has proven to be a solid investment. With these 8 iconic minifigs, and this legendary building, you won't take any risk here.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 8

Marked as "hard to find". Very few discounts have been seen for now in Europe.

PACKAGING | Score: 8

The front image is pretty nice, with a dark atmosphere, a nice building, and of course a ton of minifigs.

On the opposite, the image on the back of the box is ugly, and full of emptiness.

The box is big - even huge. If you don't look at the back, it is a good and appealing packaging overall.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 9

The set looks like a perfect investment: super heroes + castle + ton of minifigs + iconic building. The growth potential is directly bonded to the lifespan of the set, like the Haunted House.

Note that this is the second version of Arkham Asylum (the 2006 version, Arkham asylum 7785 currently sells for 430$). There might be a third version some day. But the risk is pretty low, and chances are it will be very different.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 9

The mansion is really really neat. I don't display my sets, but this one stayed a couple of weeks in my living room, and everyone who saw it had a compliment for it.

The stained glass is particularly nice with a appropriate lighting..

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 9

If I were a fan of super-heroes, I guess I'd go crazy with this set. Even if the minifigs are not exclusive.

I personally bought the set only for the pleasure of building such a nice and detailed mansion, while I very rarely buy a set outside investment. So I guess it can be appealing to a lot of other people.

The price, paired with exclusivity, is ok. The theme is solid. If the set goes EOL before mid-2015, it will be a investment killer.
