FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 8

A quick look shows an underwater sub with two men and weapons, searching for crystals, are being attacked by a giant lobster.  It's not a huge set, but one that could provide quite a few adventures!

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 6

There's only two minifigures, though they come with a few accessories like scuba gear and a weapon to make them a bit more interesting.  For a $20 retail set I would have liked to see another minifigure.  There's no unique parts that stood out.  The minifigure pieces are found in a handful of other sets and the lobster parts can be found in dozens.  The good part about this is I can easily see kids using spare parts to build a few extra lobsters (scuba won't stand a chance!).

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 6

The set isn't too big at a little over 200 pieces, so it won't very long to build.  It took me well under an hour and could easily be done in about 15 minutes if you wanted to rush it.  With all the moveable pieces it's a very fun build with moveable weapons on the sub and legs, tail, feelers and claws on the lobster.  The sub build didn't stand out but the lobster build was very entertaining.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 3

Currently this set is 7 years old and the new market value is about 25% less than that of retail with the used market value being around 30% less.  This is definitely not a set for investors, only collectors and enthusiasts.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 6

Personally, I enjoy the Aqua Raiders series. Plenty of good vs bad with vehicles and underwater structures.  Most of the other sets in the theme are worth slightly above their retail, though the margins aren't substantial enough for most investors.  I don't anticipate a huge jump in the secondary market for it.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 1

As far as I know, there's nothing special about the way this set was produced.  Quantities were normal and could be found at most stores in its time.

PACKAGING | Score: 7

While there's nothing particular exclusive about the packaging for Lobster Strike, the box is eye catching and does an excellent job of showing the potential fun of the set.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 4

Based off of the values of the other sets in the Aqua Raiders theme, I would expect this set to rise over time, but not significantly enough for investors to stockpile.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 8

I've had this set on my mantle for a few weeks, occasionally grabbing the Lobster to play around with it a bit.  The sub isn't spectacular, but the Lobster certainly catches you when you walk into the room.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 7

Overall, this is a great set for a fun time, but not for investing in. It's enough to spark an interest in the Aqua Raiders theme and certainly makes you want to pick up some of the larger sets from the theme as well as the shark battle set.
