MEMBER OWNS SET: YES     MEMBER HAS BUILT SET: YES

FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 9

Very impressive box. IT really sells this set very well.

The thing that hit me most about this set is that it is certainly one of the best if not the best CASTLE WALL sets ever created by lego.
Fits very nicely with the kingdoms series and the minifigures can be used interchangeably.
This is because the walls look realistic and are a decent representation of what happens in the movie.

Another bonus is the ladder included in the set. When propped up against the wall with minifigures the war feels very dynamic.

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 8

I believe this set has 7 minifigures in total.

The Uruk Hai look very nice. Especially when fully armed with weapons and armor.

Another very nice is King Theoden. The detail on his armor and helmet is outstanding! His expression is a very accurate representation of what is seen in the movie.

My third favourite would be Gimli. His beard is fantastic although I have seen him already in previous sets such as in the "Unexpected Gathering"

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 10

Another 10.

Hands down this set is VERY fun to play with children and adults alike.

I personally have spent hours with various minifigures taking photos at different camera angles and trying to recreate various battle scenes.

One very clever design is the left wall. It is designed to collapse into rubble with a flick of the switch as seen in the movie when the beserker runs into it with Saruman's evil bomb.

One gripe i had were the murder holes above the gate. I could not stand minifigures behind them as there was no space.
They seemed to be there only for aesthetic reasons.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 10

Considering its 9.5c a piece I think this is very good value.

Full retail in America was $129.99 I definately think this set is worth it

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 10

I personally LOVE lord of the rings.

The movie was great

The books are great

And lego is great

It is up there with Star Wars but will not be available again

You just cannot lose!

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 7

Not very exclusive unfortunately. Was available in most stores

PACKAGING | Score: 9

As mentioned earlier the box looks fantastic. (especially the front)

The front of the box is clear and clearly shows the action as the uruk hai try to claim the fortress.
The wall looks amazing and detailed - very well done by lego
Personally I am not a fan of the ring on the top right edge of the box but it does not distract too much.

The back of the box is well done. Clearly shows the innards of the fortress.
However there are too many smaller images scattered around the main picture and i find some of them unecessary

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 9

Already doing very well here in AUSTRALIA. This set is already very rare and hard to come by.
I think a lot of people underestimated this set. It has done better than most other lord of the rings sets.

Due to its success The Uruk Hai addons are also going up in value

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 9

It does display very well although not compatible with modular buildings it is nice when paired with the kingdoms line.

It should get a lot of comments from visitors however I will not give this a 10 as it may not appeal to some people's tastes when placed in the living room.
For a LOTR fan like me it is very appealing.

The t1 camper van; sopwith camel; modulars; and the new ghostbusters cuuso set are examples of sets that appeal to every adult.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 9

I will give this set a 9/10. It is a must for castle collectors!

One of the favourites in my collection and definately a keeper!

IT LOOKS FANTASTIC TOGETHER WITH Monster Fighters VAMPYRE CASTLE 9468 (google them and look for yourself!)
