FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 10

71006 is a celebration of The Simpsons 25th anniversary.  Growing up on The Simpsons, the release of this set was a great start to the year 2014.  It's so awesome seeing my favorite characters from the show rendered in LEGO form.  The details, and thought that went into the design meant it was a must-have set for all fans of LEGO and The Simpsons alike.

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 9

Minifigs wise, this set contains the first appearance of: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie as well as Ned Flanders. Currently the minifigs are exclusive to this set but as the theme gains popularity (which I'm sure it will), I would not be surprised to see the characters become available in other sets or sold as minifig sets. But as of this review, the minifigs are very exclusive. The set also comes with loads of very colorful bricks reminiscent of the show, including the violet/lavendar, blue and orange pieces. Since this set is in a way similar to the modular series, it uses tonnes of regular building bricks as foundation, which adds to the fun and challenge in building the set.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 10

Although I haven't opened my set yet, but i imagine great playability/build experience allowing fans to recreate comical scenes from the show. Also, the entire interior of the house is essentially made up of micro-builts, so the experience would be quite positive.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 9

The PPP ratio of this set is in the range of USD 0.09, which is comparable to the modular series. To be quite frank, the value for money in my opinion is exceptional.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 9

71006 is the first set in a new theme, and I believe there's great potential for it to expand. I'm thinking the next big set in the series will be either Moe's Tavern, Springfield's nuclear power station (with an interior that has high playability - similar to 10188: Death Star) or Krusty the Clown's studio/stage. It's almost a given that the idea is for collectors and die-hard fan to be able to re-create the entire town of Springfield.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 7

Since the release of 71006 is February 2014, the set is likely to have a few years of production life before retiring. However, due to it's popular demand from fans, LEGO store only allowed VIP members to purchase pre-release, limiting quantity to one per customer. In Hong Kong, seems like a lot of shops are not sure if they will be ordering any (as the show is not as popular as in the US and Canada). The one shop that I know, will be selling for a pretty high price.

PACKAGING | Score: 10

Beautiful box with the set in all it's glory, complemented by artwork from the show in the background. Cannot comment on the interior as mine is still MISB.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 9

Only time will tell if this set will skyrocket to levels like 10179 and 10182 after it has EOL'ed. But given it is the first set to be released for a new theme combined with great build experience/design not to mention iconic minifigs, the potential is high.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 10

What a magnificant set it is. The Simpsons House is a monstrous-sized set with 2,523 pieces, including loads of excellent micro-builts including: Lisa's piano, Television set playing Itchy & Scratchy, Bart's skateboard ramp, Barbeque grill, kitchen, toilet, shower, etc. The choice of colors all come together really well to make The Simpsons House a truly beautiful piece for display.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 10

Nothing short of extrordinary. LEGO did not dissappoint with this set. Everything from design, color scheme and detailing is well executed and gives collectors a great reason to fork out USD 199.99.
