MEMBER OWNS SET: YES     MEMBER HAS BUILT SET: NO

FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 8

This hospital is the first to be released in the City line in 7 years and so it was highly anticipated

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 4

The minifigures are in the medical line, which, as I said, has been out of production for quite some time. There are no lighted, motorized, or special bricks, however, and these type are often popular for resale later. But for this price and concept, none are really needed.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 9

I haven't built this item because I want to keep it in the sealed box to be sold, but I have similar sets and they are not bad as the pieces are divided up into bags with individual instructions. Each bag has a different section of the set. I bought the 7945 fire station (which is now two generations out of date) when it was initally released in 2007. This set also features the moving garage door. From what I remember, that was the most difficult part of the set in terms of actual building. Even so, it wasn't too hard. In general, items in the City line are pretty simple. In terms of playability, this item is fantastic. It has four minifigs, the back of the building is open, it has both an ambulance and a helicopter, which both can carry a stretcher. This set has relatively easy building and huge playability, so it appeals to younger lego fans in particular.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 10

I got this set right before it was retired, so I got it on sale at Wal-Mart for 47.97 plus tax. 60 bucks might be pushing it for this set because if I compare it once again to my 7945 fire station, I remember buying that one for 60 at Target. The 7945 seems to be a bit more elaborate than this one. I understand legos have gone up in price since 2007, but I feel maybe 49.99 for the MSRP would have been more appropriate. If you can find one on sale like I did, (there aren't many left) go for it. I gave it 10/10 because it is a great value on sale.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 10

City has been very popular for lego. They have produced all types of buildings, but this is only their second hospital, first in 7 years. Many lego collections have lacked a hospital, and finally this is available. The medical theme will be very popular as people buy them to complete their collections. Many more people will want this item after it retires, resulting in growth.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 7

Some items are sold only from Lego, or only Lego and Toys R Us. I was however able to get this one at Wal-Mart so its not really exclusive. But now that it is discontinuing, it will only be available from third parties.

PACKAGING | Score: 8

I haven't and don't plan to open the box, but the exterior is nice and has the lego badge and the distinct blue theme on the box that most City sets have. But no, it's not particularly special. If you are considering buying this item, try to avoid one with a damaged box (although it may be hard as the supply is dwindling. When I got mine, there were four or five in stock and a couple had dented boxes. Good, sharp boxes always help with reselling later as it means to the buyer that the item was taken care of.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 6

I rated growth a six because it is too early to say for certain. But this item, this theme, the whole hospital concept has huge growth potential. A hospital is a fun toy and a must-have for a city collection. The previous hospital grew emensely and this new one has a better design. It will especially grow in value if Lego waits before releasing a new hospital. The previous one is up over 4x MSRP. Whether or not this set is as successful or not is still TBD. However one thing can be sure and that is many people have city collections and do not have a hospital and will want one.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 6

This set looks very cool in terms of appearance, but not a jaw dropper.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 8

Overall, good set and long awaited. For the full price of 60 it is high, but you will get that back when you sell it for more later. The hospital is going to be very popular with city collectors later on, and Lego will likely not return another hospital soon, so this one has plenty of time to grow in value. I am happy as this is my very first set purchased exclusively for investing. If you get the opportunity, buy this set.
