FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 8

Whether you are a fan of Formula One racing or just a fan of Lego Technic vehicles, this set is a must-have for you. It looks cool on the box - excellent artwork, feels "fast".

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 6

Not sure how many of these parts are exclusive to this set, I'm guessing maybe some of the wing pieces.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 9

Wow this is fun to build! It is a very challenging build, took about 3 hours. The bags are not numbered so you will need a large space to spread everything out over. I love the V-8 engine model and the detailing on the chassis.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 4

Not worth buying at TRU's markup, but if you can snag it for $100 or so it is worth it.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 6

Large Technic does okay, although this type of vehicle (F-1 racer) has historically done well. This is the first generic F1-racer, though - the other 2 I can think of were licensed (Ferrari and Williams - yes, technically these were in the Racers theme but they are also 1:10 scale formula one race cars so I think they are a good comparison).

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 6

TRU/Lego.com/Lego Shop exclusive.

PACKAGING | Score: 8

Definitely eye-catching!

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 8

Based on the appreciation of 8461 (Williams Racer) and 8674 (Ferrari Racer) I would say this will be a winner in the secondary market. This is not a kids set, rather it will be desirable for the adult enthusiast - which generally means excellent profits. If you can get these for $100 or less I would say load up!

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 9

Gorgeous. That is all.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 8

I love this set! It looks gorgeous, is fun and challenging to build, is great for teaching mechanical principles (i.e. power transmission), and in general is a great design. The power functions are disappointing (hello, we want to drive it!) but with a little creative engineering (and borrowing parts from, say, the Crawler) you can turn this into a 1:10 RC racer. All around, a great build - and based on the performance of previous 1:10 scale formula one racers, it should appreciate nicely.
