MEMBER OWNS SET: YES     MEMBER HAS BUILT SET: YES

FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 9

My box arrived last Thursday.  One of the WB Shop deals, so it was poorly packaged and somewhat damaged.  Overall I was impressed with the box design though.  The set is vertically taller then the rest, in an obvious attempt to make the height of the finished product clear.  Upon opening it, I was disappointed by one thing, the bags are numbered 1-15.  Now I don't mind this with some of the smaller sets, but it gets frustrating when they dumb the building process down.  Some of the fun is organizing the pieces so that you have a longer building experience.

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 8

Grima Wormtongue is rare, but this is about it.

The Ent is only available in this set.  Would have been nice to have 3-4 other Ents to buy seperately.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 10

The set has an open back, and is just massive.  Playability is one of the best, if not the best, for a set that also qualifies as easily displayable.

The build experience is good, but as stated, my only complaint is the numbering of the bags.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 9

$200 is a fair price, but be smart and you will find it for cheaper.

I paid $170 for mine.  No complaints for that price.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 9

Hard to say how popular the theme will be at EOL.  I'm guessing pretty successful, simply because they would have killed the theme, had it flopped.  As most everyone knows, the LOTR/Hobbit movies are multibillion dollar successes.  Hard to say that the theme isn't popular.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 8

Only available online, and through Lego stores so far.  Not completely exclusive, but still pretty darn rare.

PACKAGING | Score: 8

Excellent (Not WB Shop).  The box design is great.  It sits tall, and upright.  I never keep boxes, (41999 I'm keeping) and this set won't tempt me to keep it's box.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 8

Hard to say.  If the set is out for 4 years, then the growth will be slow and painful.

If it is out for a year or two, be prepared for massive growth!  I would lean towards it seeing moderate, but steady growth over time.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 10

Highly displayable set.  It is tall, and doesn't take up a massive amount of a flat surface like the Sydney Opera House.  About 8 inches by 8 inches for the tower should be sufficient.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 9

The set is an overall great display piece, as well as build.  It provides nice playability, with lots of unique features.

It is hard to judge how it will be investment wise.  With exclusives lasting longer on the market, I would tend to say there will be better options.  It will certainly provide returns, but it will just take a lot of time for that to happen.
