FIRST IMPRESSION | Score: 7

The Minecraft set is one that has turned many into "Lego Investors."  It is a completely underwhelming set that has frustrated a great many who have "overpaid" for the set (don't believe me, read the Amazon.com reviews).  An important thing to understand about the set is that it isn't your typical building toy.  Lego helps one fine tune their fine motor skills, while this set helps you fine tune your smaller motor skills.  My hands hurt when I was done, just from trying to straighten every 1x1 piece, in which this set is full of.

I consider it a collectible, not a typical toy, and should be successful long term because of the cult like following of the game (even with the recent mass production of the set).

UNIQUE PARTS | Score: 7

The set has a few rare pieces.  You can make who I believe is "Herobrine" from the game.  There is also a creeper.  Otherwise, the pieces are all fairly common.

PLAYABILITY/BUILD EXPERIENCE | Score: 6

The set has minimal playability, and works as more of a display piece.  My set sits next to my Xbox.  The build expierience is a bit tedious, but overall is an enjoyable experience.

VALUE FOR MONEY | Score: 8

For $35 it is a steal, but I tend to not pay more than retail for anything.  I don't know why people paid $60 for this set, but that's how a free market works.

If there are shortages again this Christmas, this will sell for $60-70 again.

THEME POPULARITY | Score: 10

This theme is being expanded to 3 sets.  Minecraft has been the most popular set on Amazon for the past year now, only being passed up occasionally by what I believe is the green baseplate.

EXCLUSIVITY | Score: 10

The set is extremely hard to find.  Most retailers don't carry it, and if they do it usually doesn't stay on the shelf very long.

PACKAGING | Score: 8

I love the box on this set.  Most are disappointed because it's small, but I think it adds to the uniqueness of the set.  It is in a cubic like box, which actually displays nicely around the set itself.

GROWTH POTENTIAL | Score: 8

Largely Unknown, this set may retire soon, or continue to be produced in mass quantities.  I believe that the growth potential is there, but it largely depends on what happens in the next few months.

DISPLAY QUALITY | Score: 9

Small set that can fit in any display and possibly even go unnoticed.  I see it as being like a rubix cube.  I feel it is a must for any Lego enthusiast.

CONCLUSION & FINAL ANALYSIS | Score: 8

I feel this set is worth the retail money, and possibly even a little bit more.  It has a cult following which as long as it doesn't taper off will continue to propell this series to new heights.  While it is a great set, it is by no means traditional.  Many will be disappointed simply because they prefer the lego sets with minifigures.

I give this set a 7.5, rounding it up to an 8.
