  1. For those interested. Target in Orem, Utah had a display but it was empty. My two closest Walmarts don't seem to be carrying minifigs. Toys R Us here sucks. No minifigs yet and their polybag selection is always terrible. Right now it's the halloween witch head, and the rocking horse. I did however find 23 bags at Walgreens and bought them all. 1 - Homer 4 - Bart 4 - Marge 1 - Grandpa 1 - Krusty 1 - Milhouse 3 - Ralph 2 - Apu 2 - Nelson 2 - Itchy 2 - Scratchy Now on the hunt for Chief Wiggum, Mr.Burns, Lisa, Maggie, and Flanders.
  2. Sold Mr. Gold on eBay for $710 to a guy in Germany. Found him at Walmart in Chicago.
  3. So my Mr. Gold just sold on eBay for $710. I'm pretty happy with that price since I started him at $450 and others have gone for less recently. I am a little worried however. The buyer has 0 feedback, has Germany as his location but shipping address is in Norway. He hasn't paid yet but it's only been two hours since the auction closed. Should I be worried that he pays but then tries something fishy when he receives the item? Like saying it's fake, that it never arrived? Am I being paranoid? Anyone have any experience with 0 feedback buyers? I probably should have said on there that a buyer needed 10+ feedbacks or more.
  4. Hahaha. I'll think about it.
  5. You're right about not starting at $1. I don't know why I brought that up since I would never actually do that for such a high value item. I hoping for more advice and will let you all know how I proceed.
  6. Went to my local Walmart last night and discovered a series 10 display. They haven't had this in the past and the bags looked crips. Figured I would give it a shot since I'm missing 4 figures. Found 3 of them (Captain, Mechanic, Mime) but the most exciting part was when I felt a straight stick, a lightsaber handle, and a top hat. Mr. Gold ladies and gentlemen. I couldn't believe my luck since I'd pretty much given up finding him. My 6 year old was ecstatic and I told him we will probably sell him to get funds for more LEGOs. So how do I maximize my profits? There are currently two auctions on eBay right now. One is up to $520 and the other at $560.99. There are also a bunch buy it now from $700 to $1,200. Do I wait? Will Christmas time be better? Will they still go up in value or have we hit a plateau? Do I start at $1 and see what happens? Any advice would be appreciated.
  7. Welcome Tony. Good to know there's a LEGO store in SLC. I'm moving back to Utah after spending 3 years in Chicago.
  8. Has anyone here ever bought something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/130641791301?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Instructions-Lego-Victorian-Gothic-Custom-House-Modular-City-Town-Building-Art/300707004991?_trksid=p2047675.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D444000%26algo%3DSOI.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D17405%26meid%3D819293870242314955%26pid%3D100012%26prg%3D8101%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D290965842043%26 They are plans for custom modulars. Feedback seems good but I was wondering if anyone had tried to purchase these and had an estimate of much they would cost to build. Assuming you buy pieces from bricklink and LEGO. This is a message from the seller regarding the second link I posted, the Victorian house. A lot of pieces! **Victorian House** Roof - Approx 6000 lego parts, with a lot of small cheap 1x1 or 1x2 parts. Middle - Approx 5000 lego parts, with a lot of small cheap 1x1 parts. Base - Approx 6500 lego parts, with a lot of small cheap 1x1 parts. Garden + Fence - Approx 3750 lego parts, also with a lot of small cheap 1x1 parts.
  9. Went to the Legoland Discovery Center in Schaumburg yesterday. The LEGO store there has a lot of Back to the Future sets in stock in case anyone close by are looking for them. An estimate is around 40 boxes on display.
  10. I finally saw it clearanced at Walmart for $89 but empty shelf! So sad. I might just have to pick one up for $113 at Amazon. I'm a small time investor so even though I know it will sell well in a year or so I just can't afford more than one, maybe two. Wish I could stock away 54 like emazers.
  11. Welcome Brandon. I'm out in the Algonquin/Elgin area.
  12. Welcome izenkranz. I'm out in the Elgin/Algonquin area. You're never too old for LEGOs.
  13. The Hobbit game ($17.48 @ Target) 6 x 31000 Creator Mini Speeder (favors for a birthday party) 2 x 31001 Creator Mini Skyflyers $4.88 a piece @ Target My local Walmart had nothing on clearance. Still had Arrival of Gandalf, and Target had 4 Catwoman sets for full retail.
  14. Went to my local Walmart tonight (Algonquin) and they had nothing on clearance! They had 10 boxes of Attack on Weathertop, 1 Gandalf Arrives, Spongebob, Lone Ranger, and everything was regular price. Is it cause I'm so close to Chicago? Are all the great deals I see people posting ($40 MoM, $70 HD etc.) from little rural Walmarts and Targets?
  15. 2 x Wolverine Chopper Showdown $13.98 each 1 x Captain America $11.09 All at Target. Not amazing prices but I'll take them.
  16. Anything Harry Potter. Both for investment purposes but also because my 5 year old really want Hogwarts. It's just so expensive now that I can't justify getting it over a cheaper modular like the Pet Shop or Town Hall. Also, the Black Pearl for $75 on black Friday. I was so close to getting it and then didn't. I didn't realize the prices of EOL LEGO until Harry Potter was off the shelves. If I had only known in November 2012.
  17. I can't believe how big of a difference there is in clearance prices. The 4 Targets I have been to still have HD at $113. MoM is $67. I would love to find some of the prices you guys report on here.
  18. Thank you for all the thoughts guys. I have watched reviews of the set on youtube so I have a good understanding of playability. My son actually likes to build more than he likes to play with the LEGO. I think we might give it a shot but we'll see. He's turning 6 so his birthday wishlist could change : )
  19. Where do you see the amount of sets left?
  20. My soon to be 6 year old really want the Pet Shop modular for his upcoming birthday. He is very good at building by himself and can follow instructions. He doesn't have any big or hard sets yet. Log cabin, and Hagrid's Hut is the extent of it right now. I'm wondering if the Pet Shop will be too difficult for him and cause frustration. I'm leaning towards a couple of medium sets instead like the fire or police station. There's obviously part of me that really want the Pet Shop so I can build it with him : ) Does anyone have personal experience with younger kids building the modulars by themselves? Thanks
  21. Hi everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself. I currently live just outside of Chicago, but I was born and raised in Denmark. I have lived here in the US for 7 years now. I have loved LEGOs since I was a kid and luckily my parents still have all my old sets back in Denmark. They come visit every year and will start bringing my old sets over to me. First up is a LEGO castle from 1984. Looking forward to building that again. My 5 year old started getting into LEGO recently and now it's all he talks about. Good excuse for me to start buying sets again.I took him to Brickworld Chicago in June, and we both loved it. I discovered the worth of old sets when I checked the price of the ulitmate collectors edition of the batmobile that I bought a long time ago for $35. Just sold it on eBay for $207 and that really opened my eyes. LEGOs are like stocks, just more fun. I don't know how much I'll be investing, it's really just more of a way to pay for the sets I want to open and build with my son. Look forward to reading everyone's advice. I have already browsed the forum and read a ton.
  22. Thank you guys. I did forget to mention the Daily Bugle Showdown was at this little rundown Walmart for $30. Seems like a good price but I'm not loving the minifigs.
  23. I'm in the Elgin/Algonquin area. Not much going on. Picked up Mines of Moria at Target for $56.00. I know it might go lower but I liked the price. Stopped by the LEGO store at the Woodfield mall, and they still have 7-8 boxes of the Orc Forge. TRU close to the mall have a ton of SW 2012 calendars. With the 30% clearance it comes down to $21 before tax. Haven't gotten any yet though. Still new to this but like that we have this local thread about the Chicago area.
