The first sales from the upcoming garage Sale (starts tomorrow but my neighbor gets in early - she knows a guy!) THe garage looks something like this... 21118 The Mine from Minecraft series purchased on 1/30/2016 for $70.48 and sold for $148. No selling expenses so a return of $77.52 for an ROI of 110% 75953 Hogwart's Whomping Willow purchased on 12/27/2019 for $37.10 and sold for $55. No selling expense so a return of $17.90 for an ROI of 48% 75951 Grindelwald's escape purchased on 12/20/19 for $19.95 and sold for $17.00 No selling expense so a return of .05 for an ROI of +0 I knocked off a few dollars on the deal because she is literally my next door neighbor and she has spent $200 plus every year for the last four. Two more sets to sell and i have cleared 10% of the collection this year 🙂 IF you have been looking at some of my other posts here I am moving across multiple states next year to a home with a lot less storage space. started the year with 1350 sets across seven pallets in the basement. I have taken the view that selling is a lot easier and more practical then moving seven pallets. Would much prefer it to be four. My wife still questions my definition of practical.

Sold mine for $112.50 on eBay... figured the price is only going to drop with reports from Facebook that these are still plentiful in stores. Between the $90 profit on this plus the $25 I got from customer service after this morning's debacle, I got a nice discount on the Cantina set.

I called my local lego store after this whole debacle, and they said they had these in stock so I went and picked up the set there. wanted to avoid going inside a shopping mall but I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. The capper was that Lego customer service gave me $25 in VIP points for the trouble, so I applied that to the Cantina set. now to decide if I should sell or keep this...

So, after over two full hours on the phone with Lego CS (1.5 hours on hold...), they told me that the promo is gone for good and they will not make any more, as has been previously reported. They apologized profusely (thanks a lot) and gave me $25 worth of VIP points in addition to the ones I earned from buying the cantina set. Not bad I guess. Then I asked nicely if they had any other promos lying around that they could send me as a replacement for the lightsaber. All they had was the little HP polybag, and I wasn’t interested in that. They ended up sending me a free Mandolorian BP set. I thought that was pretty nice. So, with original VIP, bonus VIP, and the Mando set, I figure that’s a $57.50 (~16.4%) discount. I think I can live with that.

Just returned from LEGO store. They apparently received several cases of yoda light sabers (looked like 10 or 12 / case) - enough for a couple shipments of cantinas - limit one / cantina. They were shocked to hear LEGO Shop at Home was already out of them because they seem to have plenty. I did see three cantinas go out of the store while I was there. So if you live close to a store, you might be in the lucky crowd. On a side note: the yoda light saber was apparently a very last minute addition and they didn't have time to produce a "real" box for it. Hence the Yellow box.

A lot of features of this make it seem like it was kind of a slap-dash effort at selling Cantinas right away--the item doesn't tie into the set, the pieces come in a single resealable baggie, and the box doesn't match any other design for Star Wars sets. With the high purchase threshold to get the GWP, that should obviously help it appreciate, but LEGO isn't doing it any favors with their production of it.

Got this box from best buy today. Had 8 Olafs in it... Could probably fit around 100 in the size box they sent it in. Was impressively hilarious.

I want to be clear before I make my comment to let people know I am treading lightly before I say my peace. I've observed this season that there are folks on here that need extra reassurance that a set is retiring before they purchase it. It's as if their entire business will go under if the set they bought isn't retiring. I get it, I really do. You want to make sure that the sets you are putting on the shelf are gone as quick as possible. This is a bigger priority for the newer resellers than the veterans. My question is, if you're so unsure about a specific set, why not just wait a little longer to buy? "Well LegoSteve that's because that hard to find set will probably be unavailable to purchase in a few months if it actually is retiring." Ok then, if that set will goes poof then why not just buy another set, which is probably discounted unlike that hard to find set, that is also retiring and will probably have a quicker and higher ROI in the next 12-18 month? Right now I've got somewhere around 75 Hogwarts Express. Yeah I expected them to retire this year but the probably wont. Instead of lamenting over that I know things will be more than ok because I'll buy at least double that with my Q4 profits this year. Again, I know it's a little different for brand new investors because you need to turn that over quick but you shouldn't let these questions live in your head and take away any enjoyment your having as a reseller. Things will work out in the end. One last thing for the new resellers, why are you buying the sets that you are buying? Is it because others have told you what sets you should be buying or is it because you did your due diligence and decided on specific sets? I ask because there are sets I see new resellers buy that I wouldn't touch if this was my first year buying.

My local LEGO Store has marked down basically everything retiring, and saying once they are gone they are not getting more. Great Hall, Willow, and Knight Bus are all staying in stock. The only HP set they discounted and said was definitely going was Beauxbatons’ Carriage: Arrival at Hogwarts. Not that I expect all of the other sets will hang around for ever, but I suspect they will be in production/avail through the holiday season, whatever that is worth. Regardless, they will be solid investments regardless.

My store had a saber for each cantina. At least five left. Also my first trip there post covid. Vary well stocked. They still had the potter brickheadz. No diner or treehouse but just about everything else.

500million books sold, many of the kids are now afols if they are into lego. Hard to go wrong. For myself I never owned a single HP set previously and I'm really glad they came back. Not going to let them slip by...

Not the point - The point is running a toy store for a couple of days. Meeting people, talking Lego . Seeing a kid get a new set and smile. having a customer talk to me about Lego and learning what investing is like - I do this for the fun of it and to make a few dollars

When Christmas rolls around you would be surprised the quantity of Legos that sells from amazon. Now the wild card this year is with covid19 and how bad the economy will be in the next 2-3 months.

I had 2x Amazon $183 Treehouse shipped in one large box, both were in great condition. I always feel like I got away with something when stuff arrives in good shape from Amazon.

this is the verbiage that I've settled on for now. Set is brand new in an unopened, factory sealed box. The box may have shelf wear or minor damage. Set will be packaged and shipped in a new shipping box. Stored in a smoke free home.

any one have numbers on how many mos eisley and yoda sets each store is getting approx ? trying to decide on ordering tonight or going to the store and getting in line tomorrow ?

It's like a major marathon...those up front are in it to win it...whereas most are doing it for varied reasons...some to just happy to participate and not worried about their finish times.

That would be great. I've been hoping for Hogsmeade or a Ministry of Magic for a while, but I doubt they would ever happen. Much more likely to see something like you have suggested here. If this were the case, I'm keen to see how they would achieve it, with the dragon area being so far underground. If they were to add onto Diagon Alley with another Gringotts, perhaps we could have a Leaky Cauldron too. I am building 75978 right now and would have gladly swapped 2 of the "half buildings" (as each section includes 2 shops) for it, seems more important than 2/3 of the shops they chose to include

I think you're on the right track. Only difference is that I try to focus on sets that appeal to adults instead of kids. Adults have the money and would be more willing to part with it for an expensive set for themselves versus their kids. Just my opinion. I've been doing this for around 10 years. Seems to be working pretty good for me.

European Market is very different from the North American Market, the majority of posters here are from USA,so take alot of what is said here which a pinch of salt I.e. super heroes and marvel dont appreciate as much in EU, whereas technic will perform very well in EU, not as much in US. Also don't feel bad for not owning a warehouse / fork truck. As you'll find alot of people here saying they bought 100 of this set and 300 of that, but that isn't the norm, they are the exception. Sure there are some big players here, but the average Joe is just buying an extra set to stash away and sell on ebay 2 years later. Best thing is just decide what your selling strategy will be i.e. quick flip / part out / buy and hold etc, decide on your sets, use the retirement lists as a guide, and always try to buy at discount.

And to think years back when all this started (even still when the project started gaining proper momentum), LEGO had barely approved any of the submissions. Now here we stand with a list of "to-do's" growing. For the moment a backlog is a good thing. People will have a preview as to what will be released in due time and should there ever be a returning lull in lack of approvals whatever the case may be, there is a stream of already approved ideas to fall back on for as long as that lasts anyway. Chances are LEGO will not always have this full of an inbox for green-lit submissions. Then again, creativity on the Ideas site has climbed nicely over time.

Normally LEGO has about a dozen per review period and will pick 1-3 of that group. So I don't think the submission time, etc. is the issue. During covid-19, it has been extreme. Only the last two review periods have seen 2-3 times that many submissions due to everyone staying home but I highly doubt LEGO will chose 6-9 sets (2-3 times what LEGO would normally chose) to produce. That would create the backlog mentioned earlier in this thread. So they will most likely pick 2-3 / review period and then do some sort of second round of voting to find the best of the rest. (Like how the ISS was chosen from past submissions that were not selected.) Additionally, I would expect the next few review periods will see far fewer submissions hit the 10k mark because so many hit it in record time over the past two review periods. So right now it's a feast but the famine is coming for sets to review.

Basically, the customer service rep told me that it was sold out and there was no way she could get me the lightsaber, and she doesn't know if they will make anymore of these. As a consolation, she gave me $15 in VIP points.... Cool I guess??? I would've bought the cantina either way, but definitely not day one without the promo... I'm pissed. This is a total garbage move by Lego.

Lightsaber is toast. I screwed up. I wanted to use $70 worth of VIP points and accidentally purchased the phone gift card, not the online one. When I finally got off hold, 46 minutes later, the Lightsaber was gone. Lady stated that they got 10,000 Mos Eisleys to sell but only 3,000 giveaways. While waiting, a lightsaber popped up on ebay for $56 and lasted about 10 minutes. Now, there are some $100+ listings up.
