With any business whether it be a large corporation or a small website like BrickPicker, business models change. At times, you need to ask yourselves what it is that you are looking to achieve with the product you are working on. Since the beginning, Ed and I have always set out to try and help the LEGO investor and reseller save and make money.Today we are announcing that Brick Classifieds will be changing to the FREE / NO FEES model. I don't think you can really complain about that now can you. We want to help you, the LEGO investor/reseller, to move your product. Hopefully with some of the new tools that we have added to the system and the new ones that are being worked on right now, you will help spread the word to check Brick Classifieds first to find the best prices on LEGO items. Since there are no commissions taken out of your sale, we hope that you will work to price your items accordingly. If you are not going to lose fees, you should be pricing it lower on Brick Classifieds than on the other marketplaces so that you can still make the most money. Lower prices will help bring new buyers. Once buyers learn to check Brick Classifieds for best pricing, they will check Brick Classifieds first which means more money in your pocket instead of someone elses. We have made some updates to the product detail page of Brick Classifieds. We have included listings from other Brick Classifieds sellers as well as listings from eBay and Amazon. We are trying to show the buyer where they can get the best deal. If you, the seller, do your job correctly, they should want to buy the product from you and not go to the big shops. If the prices are better on eBay or Amazon, hopefully the buyer will click through and Brick Classifieds can earn some revenue through affiliate programs. Over the next few days we will be adding feeds from BrickOwl and still looking to see what can be done with BrickLink. It's been a while since I made a post about updates, but here are somethings that have changed on Brick Classifieds: Seller fees have been changed to 0% Removed the Trade feature. That has now returned to the BrickPicker forum. Entire site is in https (SSL) mode Created an infinite scroll page to easily see all the latest items that have been posted on the site Built a Store Banner Generator for you to design a custom banner for your store profile page. This could be useful for posting specials and discounts One of the big things we want to do is help spread the word about Brick Classifieds. We created a tool that will allow you to select random products in your store or pick the actual items you want displayed. It will create a snippet of code that you can use to display your store products on forums, websites, eBay, where ever. Just paste the code we give you and your items can be shown anywhere. In the coming days, there will be an update to the price guide template on BrickPicker that will include listings of sets on Brick Classifieds Everything you need to sell LEGO items is here for you. The price is right, that is for sure. The thing is to get the word out, price aggressively and get the buyers out there to learn more about your shop here on Brick Classifieds that has great prices. Viral marketing from all of you is the best way to get people to see your listings. Price the items better than eBay, Amazon, etc. They will buy from you and you will save on the fees. It is a win for everyone. Put a snippet about Brick Classifieds in a eBay listing here or there to let them check out your store. I am sure they would be happy to pay a lower price and know that you are most likely padding the price to help pay the eBay fees.16 points -
So I'm in Asda ( our Walmart for you Americans) just picking up some odds and ends tonight, anyway in this random corner I spotted like several cases of series 13 minifigures, which looked untouched, and seeing as how they just cleared all the Simpsons series 2 down to £1, I figured I'd grab one and price check, long story short they were £1 each, so I ended up with 3 full boxes. Good random score.5 points

Yes it did. It lost hundreds of dollars in value over the course of the last few years or so. It used to sell for $1,200 or more. It has been sitting at $900.00 for months. The situation with remakes or reissues is serious one with the STAR WARS theme. The news of a new movie was great news for the theme, but the news of these "retro" STAR WARS movies will make the theme highly volatile, affecting some severely...either in a positive or negative way. With each possible remake though, people will be less apt to spend big money on the retired sets. They will say..."Hey, why bother buying an old set? I can wait for the remake!" When this happens, all Hell will break loose. It won't matter if you are in it for the long term or short term or whether you are an investor or flipper, because the perceived value of this theme will be reduced. Long term, these sets will never reach the levels of current sets and short term, who will pay premium prices for a short term fix when they know there is no back end benefit? Set will appreciate slower after retirement and to lower levels. What is ironic about this whole thing is that the often maligned "Prequel Trilogy" STAR WARS movies might become the most valuable LEGO sets because these sets might never be remade to any large degree. Sure, there will be some sets never remade and they will benefit, but on the whole, the appreciation of the sets in the UCS will be stunted or reduced.5 points

It's two fold - some refuse to sell until they're squeezing that last penny out of it and some just have no plans to sell. Apologies to those who hoard rather than sell (sorry Ed and Jeff) but that's the risk you take in any investment. Buy low, sell high - I'm no financial expert (someone else does that for me) but in general isn't that how investment portfolios are managed? It's not "buy low, never sell" or "buy low, wait until growth has stagnated and then wait some more just to see if I can get an extra 10% by selling in 6 months." (PS I know it's not so simple, but the general principle seems to be pretty accurate to me.) What I buy to collect I don't worry about value. What I've bought for investment I buy to sell for a decent profit. I only have 2 SSD left because I sold the others locally for 2x my buy in (no shipping hassle or fees, why the heck not). It means the two I have left (mine and one more to sell) are "paid for" along with other items in my inventory. I'm good with that. I'll also be good with a UCS Snowspeeder remake because I want one but can't justify the cost. That's my selfish side talking.4 points

My overall message prior was not that this set is bad, I think it is gold. My point was greed and fear and how quickly people can be swayed to go all in and clean out every last one or return, cancel or not invest in any. Group think coupled with those emotions is what makes investing a losing business for many. Changes are in the wind and people better pay attention.3 points

Last few days have sold these to stock up on newer better sets (in my opinion) BTF x1, Spidy chase x11, helms deep x1, friends van news x3, riddles of ring x1, lr mine x1, mine craft micros x3, ultra build batman x1, lr stage coach x1, sw dessert skiff x1, cargo train x1, ninjago golden dragon x1, crazy sci and monster x1, galaxy squad titan x1, batcave x2, chi temple x1, kings castle x1, lr train x1, ninjago sonic raider x1, and some other stuff. Was trying to clear out the hodge podge to make room for sales and bigger sets I want to focus on.3 points

Which ad drives you nuts? You know the one - it's been there for months, it's priced way too high, and it's constantly renewed so it shows up at the top every time you search for lego. For me it's this create-a-puzzle. I do not like you, puzzle that's marginally related to lego2 points

If people hold out hope that a particular UCS model will be remade (and maybe it'll be even nicer) then they won't be as willing to shell out as much cash for the current model. For now we've been getting remakes of specific popular sets (Xwing) or distinct variations of (Tie Fighter) or improvements of (Sandcrawler) but no outright remakes of anything and everything. It will be interesting to see what LEGO comes up with for the next Star Wars movies but it wouldn't surprise me to see another massive $400-$500 SW set.1 point

This weekend: My last Family House for $98 shipped on eBay (loved that Target sale last winter), a Logging Truck for $57 shipped on Amazon, a few more Winter Soldiers ($17 shipped, eBay), and a "retro" pirate in a box. On a side note, I didn't post on this thread for most of my first year because I felt it was too much ego. Here's why I changed my mind: it's helpful for other BPers to know how much sets are currently getting. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the community.1 point

Thanks, Alpine. I really do have limited room to store sets and unfortunately I only have my closet to work with. I'm planning on buying another Pet Shop and maybe a Palace Cinema and then I may use the money for some other things that I need. Plus, I gave the wifey some money as well. It's the first time I've been able to do that and I wanted to show her that this Lego investing wasn't a waste of time.1 point
