Oh, please have a space for a battery pack at the base and a functioning time clock...that way I can totally justify displaying this in the living room...I can see many of us justifying it now, "but honey, its not a toy, its a clock"!7 points

Assuming this is not just a huge bell, I hope it includes more Westminster palace, not just the tower like the Architecture set.3 points

Wouldn't be the first time they "borrowed" from somebody, won't be the last. There was an uncanny resemblance to a Haunted House MOC when 10228 came out as well. I'd be pissed as well. Like the guy said, if they were truly planning on something like that, having him sign an NDA would have easily allowed them to say "thanks for your submission, but here's what we're already working on", and it would have cleared everything up. Now they have some obvious bad press because of this decision due to their obsession with secrecy, which I can understand due to all the knockoffs.3 points

This could have gone in about 5 different threads, but ultimately, it's an MOC, so it belongs here. Credit to PaddyBricksplitter3 points

HELLS YEAH! The trailers keep getting better without really giving away the story... but such subtle hints. Who really is Kylo Ren and if he's such a bad ass, why doesn't he kill Rey? What is Han doing with Rey? Love it! As to that lightsaber... it's almost like someone built it themselves with an imperfect energy source. Maybe after disappearing for a while and then deciding he was going to take on evil from the inside?2 points

More observation: - This Japanese version showed more BB-8 than any other trailers combined (Geez I wonder why ) - I already mentioned how I love the "fiery" look of Kylo Ren's lightsaber, especially the hot air surrounding it when Kylo put the saber next to Rey's head - Damn the shot with TIEs flying with sun on the background was a call back to Apocalypse Now @gregpj I am officially stoked by this movie, no more pretending to have low expectation, HA!2 points

Looks like Lego will be releasing GB sets to coincide with next years movie http://www.toynews-online.biz/news/read/sony-pictures-details-toy-plans-for-ghostbusters-jumanji-and-get-smurfy/045530 “Alongside Mattel, we have LEGO on board, Funko doing Pop! Thank you for your time in assisting with the "BA coupons". Having said that, I hate you Seriously need a jealous button. I quit TRU for the last 3 weeks because of all the new hires and having to instruct them that 20% off $100 was not a $2 off. The last 79018 I bought took me almost 1 hour to ring up. It felt like I was Pippen asking Treebeard to decide if I was an orc.2 points

I just wrote a second article today. Guys - this really doesn't take a long time to submit something. Even with pulling down a photo, and linking to BrickPicker pages, it took maybe 10-15 minutes to write up a short news article. For those of you that talk about giving back to the site - I realize transferring funds via PayPal for a yearly subscription seems like the easiest way to help out. But this is a very easy way to give back to the site. The more exposure that BrickPicker gets on Google, the more clickthrus it receives, and the more money back into their pocket. Please consider taking even a few minutes to contribute a new item, or an analysis, or some other original content.2 points

those sub categories of an insane amount of options did suck this same argument is another that comes up a lot. The whole new for used, set or part of a set. A big part still falls on ebay for never adding a "new other" option like just about every other main category. The fact that certain categories have totally different sub categories makes no sense to begin with. Toys you get new and used. Jewelry you get new with tags, new without tags, new with defects, and preowned. Household items get New , New other, seller refurbished, manufacturer refurbished, used and for parts not working. The fact that there are so many options for some categories and hardly any for some does not make much sense and they have had years to ad them but never do. Then they said you can't use "like new" for items they are either new or used yet still have the like new condition for video games. So go figure. The argument will always be there whether its new or used but more conditions would help. The argument with set vs figure is kind of silly and could just be in LEGO to begin with. If you sell the figs from say a MF versus selling the MF they both come from a set. Most people put xxx minifigure from 7965 or whatever so not sure that really matters to begin with.2 points

To be honest as much as I agree with what you are saying, you seem to be coming from a buyers POV. Most of us re sellers/investors just want our listings to get as many hits as possible. No?1 point

Yup, my idea as well. With the Ecto-1 and Firehouse Headquarters they have covered the original two Ghost Busters movies, and they will create a new Ghostbusters theme to put the upcoming new sets under which are based on the new movie. Since TLG made a license deal to make Lego Ghost Busters sets (including Lego Dimensions!) they will milk it out for all they can.1 point

Huh?? He said "I will fulfill our destiny. I will finish what you started". I might be just seeing it, but I fear one of the main characters from the original movie is not going to make it... ETA: I must say I love how Kylo Ren's lightsaber "energy blade" is not smooth like other lightsabers1 point

This is one of the caveats of the Ideas project. It's left a bitter taste in the mouth and Lego should feel embarrassed about the way they've handled the situation.1 point

With a retail tag of $149.99 CAD, I'd rather put my money into the Pet Shop which is the sure thing with an additional $50. Loading up now is like playing with fire. I guarantee you by January, this IR thing will be all over the shelves. It reminds me a few years back when everyone was paying up for the Dolphin Cruiser during X-mas season. Now that DC is pretty much junk. There are a lot of people who are rookies in this game and load up thinking the prices will remain sky high. I've seen a lot of hoarders seeing high prices when a new set is released and thinks the price will remain sky high. If you are not a quick flipper, don't fall for this trap. Too many have short term memory about the Tumbler when it was released last year and prices took a nose dive after Dec. 1st. That window of flipping is closing. So do your due diligence. If you are a person who just entered the lego market, you will truly be a big loser on this unless you are already an expert seller of goods on ebay and CL. Stick with the correct investments, load up the Pet Shop, Tower of Orthanc (when it pops up), and any soon to retire Star Wars set. You got a better chance of making big money buying an Ewok Village than making quick spare change on the JW series. If you have been in this lego game for a long time, you know the drill, load up those IR now, clean all the shelves and post everything online for that quick flip. Keep those receipts and get ready to refund within 45 days.1 point

I've got 9 and, as mentioned by another poster earlier, I'm not selling for less than $30. I really like this set and its box is fantastic. If I can't sell them for more than $30, I'll give them to the kids we 'adopt' for the holidays.1 point

This just went OOS at amazon, and jumped back up to RRP and is now in the hands of the reseller market. Amazon, will probably see them trickle back in and out of stock a few more times again, but judging from what i've seen with other hobbit sets on Amazon that have disappeared, I wouldn't expect to see many more in stock there. That leaves two major retailers, and i'm guessing they won't last beyond black friday.. Long term, i'm satisfied with these sets as an investment, and i'm not going to fret over 15.00, because I see them easily over 250 to 300.00 in time. The pros and cons of this set have been hammered many times in this thread, and I feel either your are a believer or not. I'm a believer in this one, and when I look at all the sets that are nearing EOL right now, this is definitely one of 5 IMO to snag right now. Some of the staple sets from Indy and Harry Potter are already hovering in the 350 to 400 mark for MIB sets. And this IMO, is a staple set and the LOTR/Hobbit line does have the nerd factor built into it, so these will go the same way. I've really been on the fence about this one for a while, but now that it's nearing retirement here in the states, it's sort of sad watching the hobbit line go away, but it is going away and once the last of these sets go OOS at TRU, that's when we will begin to see the entire line begin to appreciate. This LOTR/Hobbit series was what truly what got my son and I into lego sets. Before that period, I only bought architecture sets.. As I sit around analyzing what to spend my monthly budget on for November/December/early January, the Lonely Mountain is definitely a top 5 investment buy, IMO regardless if you buy it at RRP or not, because the real question is will this be a 2x or 3x set. I see it as a 3x set.1 point

I suggest that any potential contributors submit samples of the types of articles that they would be providing. Sure, we can all make comments and possibly a few cogent points here and there, but can we sustain interest and focus in an article? Plus, will there be any incentive to these contributions? Do contributors get a nifty badge? For reviews, are you looking for new sets, or maybe a retrospective on previous sets and what may have contributed to their increase or stagnation in value? I recently tried my hand at making an unboxing video of a grab lot that I got from shopgoodwill, would that have value to demonstrate what one might find in these random lots, or are you looking for more text only? I am not really offering that video up, since it is incredibly amateurish, and provides little in the way of valuation. I just thought of all of the unboxing videos out there for new toys, and assumed that people who like things like storage wars or american pickers or pawn stars would appreciate the treasure hunting aspects of mixed lots. If someone with more video experience wants to pick that idea up and run with it have at it. To distinguish the content that you are looking for from every other site providing news and reviews, they should have an investment slant, right? So how do you determine if the person writing the piece has sound financial insight into the product? If it was me writing it, any article that I wrote would suffer from a certain lack of authority since I am so fairly new to this site. If a longtime user on this site wrote an article, it might have more authority, but less expertise if they had never sold anything since their only experience in valuation is looking at what others have sold for. Maybe an article that explains the difference between investing and hoarding, for those spouses that begin to worry that their nest egg is being spent on children's toys. I do have to apologize for this, since I am sort of in an insomniac stupor. I hope that I am communicating my thoughts clearly. I've wondered previously why you don't have more of your own content on the front page instead of sharing what other sites are saying, especially when all the other sites talk about the same thing at the same time.1 point

and the fact that a good amount of people just search, they don't use categories. I have never once used a category to search something. Plus you would be missing stuff more than likely just as when you search completed versus sold. Even though they are both ended items you can get different things to come up on sold and completed. Another issue that has gone on for a long time. So for people that part out large sets say like Helicarrier which you could get close to $550 for awhile broken down. People listed the microfigs and accessories, the figs with the shield symbol, and the actual helicarrier. They are all still part of the set so what is the difference?? What parts of a set qualify for being sets. They aren't bulk lots of bricks as you can still give instructions to them and so forth. The mention of it circumventing ebays rules is not really true, you aren't allowed to spam titles but if you have something from set 76042 in your helicarrier partial auction it is still from 76042 and you do have a right to use it. The people that just throw a number in there to get exposure and have nothing to up for auction from that set is definitely a right to be upset but I just don't see it on the other. Everyones allowed an opinion and there is so many variables that people are always going to disagree over it so not a big deal in my book. Eventially Ebay could just change all the categories again to something more generic like building toys as the main one and then just LEGO Megabloks etc etc. So then what?? They've done it in other categories and it makes it much easier anyways. People who are looking for that specific item will always find a way to find it without categories.1 point

Don't mind at all. I purchased lot from a fellow Brickpicker back in February/March. Consisted of 250+ lbs. He had done some initial sorting, but finishing that and washing all the parts took about a month. I have been ordering parts as I go, inventorying about a dozen sets or so going by theme.(Had over 100 sets in it from 2005-2009 timeframe) Overall, I'm sure I've made minimum wage due to that hours put in sorting, but was able to keep some really cool sets like an Emerald Night, Motorized AT/AT, 7993 Service Station I've wanted for a long time, random figures, etc. etc. Between what I kept and sold/end up selling(have about a dozen left), I'll make a few thousand profit on a few thousand investment. Was hoping to double my money and I'll be darn close to doing it. This takes into account parts ordered, but not time or anything as I don't lose normal income due to working on this. I've kept a spreadsheet just for this lot to see how it goes. I'll also be taking a long break from doing this again as well.1 point

Finished the Bricktober sets from 2015 today with the TRU store. I am really surprised at the size difference between these and last year's sets but I much prefer the size of this year. I feel like the 2015 builds were more complex and used nicer bricks and in better colors. I took some photos of size for comparison. My favorite is the trains stain mostly because of the colors with the TRU store a very close second.1 point

As others have already said, DUPLO can do well but you have to factor in a few things: 1. The boxes are much larger than comparitively priced LEGO sets. This can result in larger shipping costs and requiring more storage space. 2. "Generic" DUPLOs fare far less well than some "Generic" LEGO pieces, so be extra wary of buying the Box O Duplos. For example, the LEGO Creative Tower is selling for 101.35 right now on Amazon, and the DUPLO tower just 55. Both could be had at the same price, of course. Now if you spent $30 on each of those, you'd still be making some money on the DUPLO tower, just far less than the LEGO one. Similarly, people are not likely to buy a themed DUPLO set for specific/rare pieces for use elsewhere. 3. Margins are definitely lower. Where as one can usually take a gamble at 20-30% off of a LEGO set, definitely look at 50% or more for DUPLO purchase - One exception, I have been purchasing the DUPLO Disney Princess sets at 20-30% off as I have found them, and some of the returns have been quite good. 4. Personally, I'd avoid the PLANES theme like the plague. 5. DUPLO sets seem to have a lower ceiling in general. While lunatic Star Wars fans will pay $700 for a Star Destroyer, in general it seems even the best and most expensive DUPLO sets top out in the $150-$200 range. And those are rare. Very few go higher than that. 6. DUPLO seem to have a longer product cycle in general, as they seem to require less updating. 2-3 years is pretty standard as opposed to the 1-2 years for most of the LEGO sets, which means if you get in too early you may have to wait a bit. In your example, Big Farm and Train at 30% are probably fine investments in that you will profit from them, though there's no telling when those sets actually will retire, and that money could better be spent now on other sets that are already disappearing - Most Walmarts are also clearancing Starhoppers, Malibu Mansions, Fire Temples, etc etc which may result in faster returns with smaller storage commitment. I personally think the Super Hero DUPLO theme will do quite well in the long run, and am definitely eyeing them. Most Target/Walmart are clearing out the Superman set now. So there are plusses and minuses, depending on your strategy, it could be worth fitting in.1 point
